at about 0,55€ per sheet it´s very cheap, only fomapan 100 is cheaper but my dealer was out of stock so i took a box with 50 sheets of adox 50 with me.
Because the emulsion is a classic recipe from the 1950s it is a single layer film with very good sharpness, and also tends to work best with classic developers like rodinal (or it´s close friends called adox R09 etc.). Acording to the unlimited knowledge of the internet, in rodinal this film should be rated as iso 32 for best results. I made my first try with diafine but more on this later.
Adox 50 is also very suitable for use in staining pyro developers , perhaps i will give it a try in caffenol.
For the first sheet, i found the first result very pleasing. I rated it on iso 50 and diafine seems to give exactly iso 50.
To my development:
2 Minutes prewash
4 Minutes in Diafine Solution A
4 Minutes in Diafine Solution B
1 Minute Stop with plain Water
8 Minutes Fixing
Final Rinse
Sadly the emulsion is very prone to damage while wet so extensive care is advisable.
I´ll try to use hardener in the fixing bath and will report about the further results.
The Image is sharp (it´s not perfect in focus because my tripodhead isn´t desiged for 8 kg heavy cameras) the tones are very nice and rich and there is lots, really lots of detail in the shadows, i tweaked the image with levels but right before the scan even showed the mesh-detail inside of the mask-inhaling-valve, which is pretty good.
If the next tests are as good and convincing like this one, i think i found a film for studio work, and maybe even for the rest of my large format work (need a colour film, too but this will be kodak portra 160nc and fuji velvia i think.. even it is far more expensive).

Da ich einen guten Film für meine 4x5" Kamera brauche und mein Händler leider gerade kein Fomapan 100 zur hand hatte habe ich mich für eine 50 blatt Packung Adox CHS 50 entschieden, nach dem Fomapan der günstigste Planfilm auf dem Markt, pro Bild zahlt man knapp 0,50€ was im vergleich zu Kodak, deutlich günstiger und im Vergleich zu Ilford immernoch günstiger ist. Für alle die auf der Suche nach Entwicklungszeiten sind, im englischsprachigen Raum ist der Film auch als Efke 50 bekannt. Da es sich um einen klassische einschicht Emulsion handelt die in den 50ern entwickelt wurde harmoniert er besonders gut mit klassischen Entwicklern wie Rodinal und z.B. Diafine. In Rodinal hat er laut dem Internet eher Iso 32, in Diafine hat er nach ersten tests Iso 50. Die Adox CHS serie soll sich auch sehr gut in stainenden Pyroentwicklern machen, auch caffenol wäre eine Idee.
Das Bild ist mein erster Versuch mit diesem Film, entwickelt in Diafine für Jeweils 4 Minuten, vorgewässter für 2 Minuten, mit normalem Wasser gestoppt fixiert und dann gewässtert.
Leider ist die Emulsion solang sie Nass ist sehr anfällig für beschädigungen, evtl. schafft Härter im fixierbad abhilfe, das muss ich noch testen.
Aber nun zum Bild
Das Bild ist scharf, wenn auch nicht absolut scharf da mein Stativkopf nicht für 8 Kg schwere kameras gedacht ist, das Korn ist absolut fein, quasi im Scan nicht sichtbar. Die Tonwerte sind sehr schön und die Details in den Schatten sind sehr eindrucksvoll, im Rohscann (vor der level-korrektur) sind sogar details im Gitter des Luftfilters zu sehen.
Insgesamt ein sehr gutes Ergebniss und wenn die weiteren Tests so gut sind bin ich mir sicher ich habe meinen Standartfilm für 4x5" gefunden. (Klar für Farbe brauch ich auch noch was, aber da nehm ich den bewährten kodak portra 160nc und den fuji Velvia 50, wobei die beiden exobitant teuer sind).
